One of the most common questions I get is “Isn’t hypnobirthing for hippies?” and if I could, I would shout my answer from the rooftops: hypnobirthing is for EVERYONE and EVERY BIRTH. Hypnobirthing, among many other things, is a childbirth education course that teaches self-hypnosis and relaxation techniques to combat misconceptions and fear during labour.

Many women have a fear of the pain commonly associated with labour. The combination of this fear and the unknown is proven to increase the amount of pain experienced. This is where hypnobirthing plays its vital role. Hypnobirthing is centered around the belief that both mother and baby’s bodies are designed to work in harmony together during labour.

You are taught how your body is designed to give birth and how your baby adapts to enable this to happen. Through learning breathing techniques, visualisations, how your birth partner can be the perfect cheerleader and much much more, you can learn how to enter a deep state of relaxation on demand. I know what you’re thinking, “Yeah right!”, I thought exactly that when I was researching hypnobirthing during my pregnancy. I can assure you, however, and I speak from experience, with the proper training and dedicated practice you will be able to achieve this. You’re growing a baby, you can do anything!

So how exactly do we achieve this I hear you cry! My hypnobirthing classes teach the techniques and provide the resources required to achieve this state of self-hypnosis. Split over multiple sessions to allow you time to practice the technique, whilst gaining the advice and mentoring from myself, you will learn how to how to enter a deep state of relaxation, and continue to maintain this during labour. You will receive my support and guidance throughout the course, your pregnancy and in the weeks following your babies arrival. You will be given a copy of The Calm Birth Method book and access to The Calm Birth School positive affirmation MP3s. These MP3s cover visualisation techniques, which will be used during labour and the ‘Fear Release’ MP3s, which will be used to alleviate any anxieties you may have during your pregnancy.

OK, cool, but its a lot of money, what else do I get? The Calm Mama Co hypnobirthing classes are a full antenatal course. During the classes, you will be educated not only in hypnobirthing techniques but on all aspects of childbirth and navigating the healthcare system. I’ll teach you that you can say ‘No’ to anything you don’t feel comfortable with and how to be in charge of your birth experience. Birth partners are also taught techniques for helping you during labour and in the lead up to your expected date, along with how to surround you in a positive bubble of calm birth vibes – gone are the negative connotations surrounding birth. If you choose to take one of our group courses, you’ll meet a network of expectant mums who will become a valuable source of support during pregnancy and your new role as a mum. By the end of the course, you will feel empowered and ready to approach labour with the excitement it deserves. Oh, and did I mention you get an awesome Calm Mama Pregnancy Relaxation Box, chock full of gifts to help you relax and take care of you and your baby bump.
